Hi! I’m Richard, and since 2002, I’ve taught music to all ages from children as young as 4 to retirees in their 70’s. It doesn’t really matter if you’re rediscovering your former love of playing music or starting out for the very first time! Most of my students are studying towards ABRSM exams (up to Grade 8) but some want to learn just for the sheer fun of it! I’ve presented hundreds of candidates to exam boards over the past 20 years or so and know what is expected at each grade. I have a current, enhanced DBS check with full disclosure.
Due to the current circumstances, I can offer lessons online…or on a fine day, perhaps out in the countryside!
I teach in an open and friendly way, sensitive to each learner’s individual needs and fully aware of the challenges that learning any instrument brings. Above all, I want to help make this adventure fun! And it has to be fun because the road is long and the pursuit of mastery never ends. My aim is to understand my students’ personal musical objectives, identify the different ways that they learn, steer them away from common pitfalls and recognise those times when they might be misdirecting their energies away from the most advantageous foci.
If you are looking for someone to engage you or your child with learning piano, saxophone or music theory then I’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch using the online form and I will certainly do whatever I can to help you
